About Italian Days

Alessandro Martini

Owner and creator of Italian Days Food Experiences, Allora Mangia Europe and USA, and of the new and unique Prosciutto Lab.

Our story

A Tuscan and a German arrived in the Bologna hills in 2007, without friends, without knowledge and zero money.

We started our adventure against all the no’s of people who didn’t believe in us and in our dream, but only one thing makes a dream impossible – the fear of failing. Our adventure started in 2008 like with an old fiat all split with little petrol and no navigator but in our heart a great desire to live our dream.

During our journey we understood that failing without fear is called growing up. We cannot buy the experience; nobody can give it to us and we cannot study it but everyone has the opportunity to live it.

It wasn’t easy at the beginning and not being easy convinced us even more to believe in our dream. All the people we hosted on our food tour made us grow, transmitting love, energy, enthusiasm, and making a person happy, seeing them smile with their hearts or cry with their hearts or feel embraced tightly, made us even stronger. We have grown over the years as a job, and consequently the Italian Days Family has also grown, 2 children Emma and Leo have arrived, something unique, which has given us more love and strength, but other “children” have also arrived i our precious collaborators, young graduate boys, but who believed in us in our adventure as we believed in them. One of these is a nutritionist, a boy who had already collaborated with us in 2013 but then left us in 2014 to live his dream, that is, to study and become a nutritionist, and whom I respect because, like us, he was not afraid but believed in his dream.

in 2019 after graduation and after 5 years in which we lost sight of each other because he was in Florence, we met and I asked him that we needed because he could make us grow with the contents the offer the value and he could grow with us.

In 2016 we opened our e-commerce company in Florida for Italian products, (another dream) we did this thing not for money, but because we understood that we had to do it, we had to be able to give everyone the opportunity once they returned to America to to be able to buy products imported directly from people by families from the companies they had visited with us.A site that is not only an online shop of fine Italian food for our guests who have been on tour with us, but also an opportunity for all those people who are looking for web of fine Italian food, because to understand the true value of a product people have to experience history first hand, tradition, have to meet the family, have the opportunity to follow the processing steps and meet know all those people who are committed to creating a quality handmade product made with love and passion.

On the 21st July we will open the Italian Days Food Experience & Art Lab, the store will be next to a new ham factory where we will have the exclusive factory tour. With a nearby farm, we will put pigs in the semi-wild state, to then be able to produce a very small production of REAL ham. Inside the shop we will dedicate corners to all those producers who put love and passion and who, for a matter of logistics and time, cannot find them, so we will bring their products to us so that we can at least give visibility, make taste, explain but give everyone the opportunity to get to know these small realities and for those who want the next time they return to Italy have the pleasure of going to visit knowing who and what is behind it.

We launch an e-commerce for Europe in the beginning of 2019. The first groupage platform on bologna that gives the opportunity to group all local products with a single shipment, but as in us, a site that sells not only fine Italian food but a concept of enhancement, so you can buy typical products but have the opportunity to let you know and understand what’s behind it, therefore the value that that product has by hosting you in Italy and making you live a real experience with us through our food experiences.

Italian Days food & wine experiences in its adventure has grown a lot we have become mature adults we are now father and mother, but we will never stop dreaming, indeed now we want to dream with them.

In the last 3 years only in the food tour of bologna we have hosted from 5,000 to 6,800 people per year.

Well today we are in ZERO due to the Coronavirus, and being in ZERO, so it’s like starting again for a new adventure, like our first adventure in 2008. This situation made us remember and relive many moments, situations, that we had hidden like they make dogs with bones … and all of this is stimulating because it makes us dream again but dream with Emma and Leo and therefore transmit a meaning to them, which must believe in themselves and in their dreams and that must listen only to their hearts.

Unfortunately, Now the people who had booked, therefore people who dreamed, and who unfortunately had to cancel their trip consequently their dream was only a dream or a nightmare. So I want to give them the opportunity to live their dream, to them and to all the people who were planning a trip to Italy to discover a history, traditions and people, but also to be able to offer all our friends who participated in the our food experience with us everything behind what they could not see and experience during the tour due to time and logistics problems.

But on in June 2020 we are restarting also with the Food Tours, we are back ?

5 Tips for your first family road trip in Italy

How to organize your first family road trip? Here’s an interesting article from our supporter by Katlyn Jessop to get useful tips!

Going on a road trip in Italy is one of the most unforgettable ways to spend a family holiday, as the country offers a wide variety of experiences for an amazing vacation. Not only does it  have breathtaking views, but it also has iconic historical landmarks, and a valuable artistic and cultural heritage. Moreover, the food scene in Italy is one of the best there is in the whole world, and everyone from young children to older adults can appreciate the gastronomical delights of this amazing country. If you’re thinking of going on a road trip in Italy with your loved ones, you’ll need to plan ahead to ensure a smooth and hassle-free holiday for everyone. Here are some tips for your first family road trip in Italy.

1. Select the right car
Once you’re in Italy, you’ll need to select the right vehicle for your road trip. Though it may be tempting to pick a convertible so you can zip around Lake Como in style, you’ll need to consider everyone’s comfort during long drives. Moreover, to save money on your road trip, you’ll need a compact vehicle such as a hybrid car, an electric car, or a conventional coupe or sedan, as these types of cars use significantly less fuel than SUVs or large vans. Also, these types of cars are easier to drive on winding roads or city streets. But if there are more than five of you who will be travelling throughout the country, then a compact SUV that runs on diesel is your best bet if you’re looking to save on fuel costs.

2. Plan your route
It may be difficult to visit all the main areas of Italy if you’re staying for just a week or two, so you’ll have to pick a route and plan your drive accordingly. For instance, if your family loves seafood and you’d like to see stunning views of the Mediterranean, then a road trip around Sicily should be on your itinerary. Meanwhile, those who want to take Instagram-worthy photos of glamorous Italian villas should head to the Veneto region and drive around the Lake Garda area. For grown-ups who love food and wine, a drive around Tuscany will surely hit the spot, as it’s where some of the best wineries and cosy eating places in Italy can be found.

3. Eat the local food
Wherever you go in Italy, it’s guaranteed that there’s always something good to eat. When in Tuscany, be sure to eat panzanella (bread salad), Ribollita soup, and Bistecca alla Fiorentina. For the best arancini and Pasta alla Norma, drive to Sicily and have your fill of these local dishes. And of course, you can get traditional Italian pizza and pasta at any region, so be sure to eat at a bistro or family-operated cafe to get the most authentic version of these classic dishes.

4. Make a beeline for the cities
A road trip in Italy isn’t complete without visiting one or two of its major cities. Fashionistas will surely love a trip to Milan, which is one of the world’s fashion capitals. History buffs will appreciate a drive around Rome, as it’s where iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Pantheon can be found. For art enthusiasts, a day trip around Florence should be prioritised, as it’s where some of the most notable pieces from the Renaissance period can be found, such as Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture at the Galleria dell’Accademia, and Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus,” which is displayed at the Uffizi Gallery.

5. Stay safe
Driving around Italy can be lots of fun, but be prepared for any emergencies to ensure a hassle-free trip. Make sure that all your smartphones are fully charged before leaving your hotel, and place a first aid kit inside your vehicle. You should also bring enough water for all family members, as well as any necessary medication. Stay on the main roads as much as you can, and be sure to ask for directions if you get lost. If you do get into an accident, call 112, or dial 118 for medical emergencies.

Going on a road trip is one of the best ways to bond with your loved ones. Consider following these tips on your upcoming Italian road trip, and have fun on holiday with your family!

A #DOP Day in the Countryside

Thank you Sally for this great blog !!!

Savory Wandering

Ending like this every day ;-)))

Over lunch we get to know our new Dallas friends, exchanging travel stories and eventually emails, hoping to see one another again in one of our respective hometowns. Yay we made some friends! As dusk falls and we leave our “lighta lunch” the Austrian lady is encouraged and successfully pulls off “sabrage”. We are an enthusiast crowd and cheer her on as she swiftly runs the sword up the bottle and cleanly cuts off the top, sending the cork flying. We share one last toast together with the foaming pignoletto, the region’s sparkling white wine, before driving back to Bologna in the dark. #DOP Ricardo was right, it was a greata day, one of the besta ever.

Italian Days Food Experience in the Traveller

Thank you all for this great articel and customors letters 😉

Thank you Linda 😉

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I agree with Brian Johnston (Traveller, July 7) that Emilia-Romagna is a wonderful food destination. Readers might like to know that there are numerous small group tours available from Bologna, Parma, and Modena, eliminating the need to organise individual visits yourself and drive.

On a recent trip to the region, we chose the “Italian Days” tour from Bologna (italiandays.it), and couldn’t have been more delighted.

As part of a small group of eight tourists, we took in a Parmesan factory, a balsamic vinegar producer, and a prosciutto factory, with delicious tastings and local wines at each stop.

The day was hosted by our enthusiastic and knowledgeable English-speaking guide, Alessandro, and was topped off with a magnificent meal at a local agriturismo. It was great fun and good value.
